I am a family nurse practitioner with a specialty in endocrinology and diabetes.
I received specialized training in treating persons with diabetes and endocrinology disease from Duke University, the first endocrinology training program for nurse practitioners in the United States.
I decided to become a nurse practitioner after living overseas and working for Peace Corps. The experience inspired me to return to the USA, further my education and bring healthcare to people through the use of technology.
With a plethora of both national and international nursing career experiences, my life’s work is helping people obtain maximum health.
My specialties are diabetes (type 1 and type 2), thyroid disorders, obesity management, and general endocrine. I am committed to skilled, individualized and practical care.
Diabetes occurs when our pancreas is not producing enough insulin or our body does not
effectively use the insulin being produced. Insulin is a hormone which regulates glucose (sugar)
in our blood. There are different types of diabetes: Pre-diabetes, Type I, Type II, Gestational,
LADA-Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults and MODY-Maturity-Onset Diabetes of the
Young. Some people refer to a Type III Diabetes, although most health organizations do not
recognize this term. Here at Telendocrine we manage all types of diabetes virtually.
Endocrinology involves the study of hormones, endocrine glands and organs. Hormones are
chemical messengers which coordinate many functions in our body. The hormones travel in
blood from endocrine glands to organs coordinating important roles in sexual function,
metabolism, growth and development, mood and sleep-wake cycle. Our body makes over 50
hormones, and some include: insulin, thyroid hormone, testosterone, estrogen, growth hormone
and melatonin. Endocrine glands include: thyroid, parathyroid, pituitary, adrenal and pancreas.
Let Telendocrine virtually manage your endocrine concerns.
Nutrition involves how food and drink affect our body. We take a look at how essential nutrients
from food affect your body, mind and soul. Food can provide energy for our daily activities or
supply excess energy converting and placing the extra energy into the tissues of our body. Eating
is not only necessary for our biological functioning but also is a cherished activity connecting us
with ourselves and others. Nutrition and eating play major roles on how we feel each day.
Telendocrine can help you to manage your nutrition and develop a plan to reach your goals!
